About South Main Alliance
The South Main Alliance (SMA) is a 501(c)(3) corporation formed in 1976 based on recommendations in a National Endowment for the Arts funded study conducted by Rice University titled Options for a Unique Texas Place, that urged the creating of a framework for collaboration to protect and enhance a special area with great diversity and quality of life. The South Main area is unique in Houston for its concentration of educational, cultural, health care, innovation and entertainment parks, campuses and institutions. Supported by memberships, SMA's Board of Directors holds joint meetings with the Main Street Coalition.
The South Main Alliance seeks to elevate the quality of life experience of the South Main area for those who live, work and visit here. South Main Alliance engages area stakeholders to pursue those common goals that can best be accomplished working together.
