  • The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston houses an encyclopedia of world art from ancient to modern times including important collections of Latin American art, tribal gold artifacts, and photography; offers junior and advanced art education; has beautiful grounds and sculpture gardens; and provides an extraordinary variety of changing exhibits, films, lectures and classes.

  • The Menil Collection is a campus devoted to the artistic vision of Jean and Dominique de Menil with a world recognized collection of surrealist works and tribal art, special installations devoted to works of Mark Rothko, Dan Flavin and Cy Twombly; and sanctuaries devoted to contemplation, and humanitarian causes.

  • Museums that feature exhibits and installations for contemporary works are Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, Lawndale Art Center, Rice University Art Gallery, Houston Center for Photography and the Center for Contemporary Craft.

  • Miller Outdoor Theatre introduces audiences of all ages to performing arts through 130 free performances of music, dance and theater in a beautiful setting in Hermann Park, and a wealth of performances are offered on college campuses and at community theaters.

  • Many buildings are designed by world-renowned architects including Mies van der Rohe, Phillip Johnson, Rafael Moneo, Renzo Piano, and Robert Venturi as well as the historic Astrodome which was the world’s first covered stadium.
